Information about David

Just for now I am not currently available for Maths Tutoring.

I am a friendly, calm and patient tutor and have an enthusiasm to teach all ability levels. I make sure I understand how the student thinks and learns and I build a good rapport.

I have a Maths and Computer Science degree from Bristol University and have worked as an IT consultant for over 30 years.

For the last 15 years I have taught children in the voluntary sector and have a passion for helping young people to realise their full potential.

I make sure that each session is tailored to suit the student needs, and a typical session may involve an explanation of the topic being studied, showing the student how to answer some example questions and then the student working through some questions with prompts being provided as appropriate.

A good GCSE grade is the result of sustained hard work over a period of time – improving performance is a long term process rather than a sprint. However with the right attitude the journey is interesting and rewarding.

Experience: I’ve tutored students in Sussex and Surrey. Recent work with tutees includes:

• A year 8 student who was having problems with angle theorems and had some difficulties at school. By carefully explaining the theorems, providing plenty of examples and working through numerous questions, the student grasped the concepts and I finished the tutor sessions with a very happy student.

• A year 11 foundation level student needed some individual attention in order to grasp various concepts. With ongoing dedicated and patient tuition, the student made substantial progress..

• A year 11 student was taught how to factorise cubic equations by inspection. To help with this I produced a clear and detailed step-by-step process which the student followed, understood and applied perfectly to all the questions set.
