Information about Harriet

Hi! My name is Harriet; my pronouns are she/her. I graduated from Queen Mary University of London with a BA (Hons) English in 2018; I am currently studying for an MA in Critical Theory at King`s College London.

I am able to tutor on anything from Chaucer to 19th century novels, as well as plays, poetry and literary theory. I will guide my students through the text whilst encouraging them to think independently and develop their analytical skills. Simultaneously, I will be able to improve the structure and style of their written work so that they may express their ideas clearly and confidently.

Throughout my education I have been lucky enough to have been taught by people who have not only strengthened my abilities, but encouraged my love of English. This has motivated me to do the same for others. As a tutor I will be able to not only provide practical skills - having achieved A* grades in both GCSE and A Level and a First Class Honours degree - but encourage a sense of interest and curiosity. I know that English might be a daunting or difficult subject for some, but I hope to make it accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding.

Availability: I am happy to tutor remotely or in-person. I am flexible in terms of days and times; the only days I am unavailable are Tuesday and Friday.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: Throughout my education I had the opportunity to teach and mentor younger students. For example, in Sixth Form I spent my afternoons helping underachieving students improve their reading ability. I also volunteered to help GCSE students improve their English Language coursework. In addition, I have experience as a private tutor, having taught GCSE-level analytical and essay writing skills on a regular basis between May and July 2017.

DBS Check: Yes
