I am highly experienced within the classroom environment and as one to one tutor at GCSE and A level English Literature and Language. I`m still passionately interested in young people, education and English after nearly 30 years of teaching, and am committed to helping to achieve the best possible academic outcomes for students, whilst also developing excellent relationships. I have a proven record of supporting young people to secure or exceed their target grades. My F2F and online tutor sessions are always tightly structured, planned around students` needs and progression.
Availability: Weekdays and evenings; Saturdays; school holidays.

Experience: English language and literature teacher in maintained and independent schools in Gloucestershire, London and USA. Recently retired Head of English in local grammar school. Extensive experience with most exam boards for GCSE and A Level, including IB and IGCSE. Have examined at A Level and GCSE for AQA. Experience as a 6th form tutor with preparation for university entrance interviews, UCAS personal statements and Oxbridge applications. Strong record of excellent results at A Level and GCSE.

Clare is an absolute amazing tutor, my son has just achieved a Grade 6 in English GCSE which I know would have much higher if we had found Clare earlier than February 2026, prior to his exams in June. My son identified he had some concerns relating to his ability to achieve decent results in English which due to his school he was struggling and wasn’t interested in English. Clare changed all this, helped him to understand the content and provide him with the tools to achieve a much higher score. I could not recommend Clare enough.

Clare has taught my son for a year now, preparing him for GCSE. His confidence has grown and he appreciates her help. She has been very patient with him and always works alongside what he’s studying in school at the time. She is flexible with lesson timings and easy to deal with.
