Information about Millie

Hello! I’m Millie, a first year student studying Chinese at Oxford University. This course currently covers a variety of areas, such as modern (simplified and traditional) and classical Chinese, as well as Chinese history, literature and philosophy.

As the Chinese subject leader in both year 12 and year 13, I gave multiple talks to encourage younger students to pick up Chinese within the school timetable. Doing these presentations made me recognise how much I enjoy passing on knowledge of the language and inspiring others to want to study it.

Of course, I also hugely enjoy teaching subjects aside from Mandarin. My aim is to help students find enjoyment in learning by reaching outside of the occasionally uninspiring syllabuses, and developing new methods of learning that are individually suited to each student’s needs.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: For a year, I helped teach science at a primary school, which helped greatly in adapting my teaching methods in order to create funner and more interactive learning environment.

Furthermore, in year 12 I was awarded a Chemistry scholarship, and actively took part in writing for my school’s scholarship programme. This encouraged reading out of the A-Level syllabus to expand my knowledge of the subject.

At GCSE, I was awarded eight Grade 9 (Maths, English language, English literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Mandarin) and one Grade 8 (Art) - equivalent to nine A*.
At A-Level/Pre-U, I achieved A* in both Biology and Chemistry, and a D1 in Chinese (the highest grade achievable).
