Information about Jonathan
Having spent the last two years working in secondary schools teaching English, I am a qualified professional with an exuberant passion for my subject and for empowering young people.
When tutoring one-to-one, I look to understand an individual pupil`s needs and acumen for the subject, and tailor bespoke activities based around that knowledge. My specialisms in education are:
- Metacognitive learning - tasks designed around deepening a pupil`s understanding of their own abilities.
- Connectionist learning - establishing patterns of responses to tasks through repetition and appraisal.
- Cultural literacy - inspiring and deepening learning through providing a deep and broad subject and cultural knowledge, connecting task and subject to lived experience.
I support all of my teaching with a comprehensive understanding of Literature, literary theory, modern and early modern history, politics, sociology, and media - as well as, most importantly, empathy for the reality of being a young person.

Jonathan is clearly very passionate. He takes time to prepare for lessons and pushes my daughter in a positive way. With such enthusiasm he is able to engage well. My daughter is very quiet and shy, but has taken to him very quickly. We have only had a couple of lessons, but I listened to the last lesson and was very impressed with his approach.
