Information about Kate
I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher/tutor with over 28 years of experience and a strong track record of developing successful relationships with students. I have taught a wide range of children of different abilities from students with severe literacy difficulties to very high achieving students. In the past few years I have been tutoring students in the daytime who have struggled to access mainstream education for a range of reasons (ASD, dyslexia, other processing issues) and left school or been home schooled. I have also been tutoring students who are still at school, but need extra help.
My Tutoring Approach
Most importantly, I try to make effective and successful relationships with my pupils so that they enjoy their tutoring sessions, feel relaxed and are keen and able to learn. I try to adapt sessions to suit the interests and specific needs of my pupils and attempt to keep them lively and interesting. Sometimes my student is in need of support in exam preparation. To help them, our sessions will involve a close focus on exam marking criteria and specific question requirements as well as supportive feedback with target setting on work completed by the student outside our session. Other students are in need of a more creative approach to help them access English and I find this particularly useful for students with ASD and pupils who are home schooling. Then I will adapt my sessions to suit their individual needs and interests.
Availability: I`m available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm online. I am happy to do face to face sessions or have them online, depending on what is most suitable for my students
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: With extensive experience of teaching GCSE English Language and Literature in mainstream education, I can offer effective GCSE examination preparation for the key exam boards (EDUQAS, AQA etc.) If your teenager/child is struggling with Literacy, I can support them well, having been the Head of Literacy and Special Needs Coordinator in two SEBD schools for over 7 years and having taught one to one intervention for many students. I have a lot of experience tutoring students with ASD, dyslexia and other processing issues and have learnt to adapt and be creative to find strategies to help my individual students access English in a way that suits their difficulties with the subject. I have also tutored and taught high achieving students from a local grammar school and can help them reach their full potential and attain the higher grades.
