Hi there!



I`m Lauren. I graduated in summer 2019 with a first class degree in French and German from St Andrews University. I find languages really exciting because they allow you to do all sorts of things. For example, in 2016 I was on a year abroad in Switzerland and managed to be part of a yodelling club, sledge down mountains, cycle across borders, and swim in Alpine lakes. Lots of people say that English speakers don`t need other languages, but I disagree. Without studying languages I would never have had these kinds of amazing experiences. Languages are also really social subjects. I love the process of learning French and German because it involves so much more than sitting at a desk and writing essays. I want to help you see how much fun it can be to learn foreign languages. 

A little bit about me as a person I love baking and crafts. In my free time I like to go out for coffee with my friends, go swimming or to the gym, and in the winter, host cozy movie nights!

Availability: I can usually be flexible. I am free every evening from 7pm and earlier evening lessons can be arranged if notice is given. Get in touch, and we`ll sort something out!

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have two years of teaching experience, one in Senegal (West Africa) and one in Switzerland. I have also tutored people before. From all this, and my own time at school, the most important thing I have learned is that every pupil is different. What works for one pupil may not work for another, and the only way for me to find out what works for you is by getting to know you. That`s why I think creating a rapport with pupils is essential. 

Something else that really matters to me as a tutor is that my pupils feel comfortable with me. Our lessons together should be something you look forward to. I am open and approachable, so if you have questions or things you don`t understand, I really hope you can come and speak to me about it. We`re all just learning, so mistakes are fine, and there is no such thing as a stupid question. Our lessons will be a stress-free space for you, as this fosters more effective learning.

I have a passion for languages, but I also have a real passion for teaching. I enjoy the process of careful lesson planning and record-keeping. I also understand how important confidence is when it comes to passing exams. I will strive to build up your confidence and teach you to rely on what you know. I am always open to feedback and criticism, as I believe this will only make our time together more valuable.
