Information about Conor
Hi, my name is Conor. I am a PhD-trained scientist with a background in cell and molecular biophysics, biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy. I completed my PhD at Kings College London and now teach and carry out research at Brunel University London.
I offer online tuition in A-level Biology, A-level Chemistry, undergraduate biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and selected areas of physical chemistry, spectroscopy and biophysical chemistry.
Before my PhD, I worked as a professional science and maths tutor, supporting students at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level. I also completed a PGCE in Secondary Science at the University of Southampton and have experience teaching in schools, sixth-form settings and one-to-one tuition.
My approach is structured, calm and student-focused. I help students identify where their understanding has broken down, then rebuild the topic using clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples, exam-style questions and discussion. I am particularly interested in helping students who feel capable but stuck, or who need help turning their knowledge into stronger exam answers, essays, lab reports or presentations.
Availability: I currently offer online tuition only. Lessons are usually available Monday to Thursday evenings between 18:00 and 21:00, with some Saturday morning availability by arrangement.
A typical lesson lasts one hour. I recommend weekly lessons for students who want steady progress, with additional revision or coursework-support sessions available before exams, mock exams, university deadlines or project submissions.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have several years of experience supporting students across science and maths, including GCSE, A-level and undergraduate learners. Earlier in my career, I worked as a professional private tutor in the Southampton and Winchester areas, helping students improve their confidence, subject knowledge and exam technique.
I have also taught in secondary schools and sixth-form settings through my PGCE training, working with students of different abilities, learning styles and levels of confidence. This helped me develop a patient, structured and adaptive teaching style.
Since then, I have completed a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biophysics at Kings College London and worked as a postdoctoral researcher. My academic background gives me particular strength in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, protein science, microscopy, spectroscopy and scientific data interpretation.
For A-level students, I can help with subject understanding, exam technique, mark-scheme language, practical skills, data analysis and revision planning. For undergraduate students, I can support lecture material, lab reports, essays, dissertations, presentations and research projects.
