Information about Imogen
I am an Oxford university graduate who is experienced in guiding students and children in language learning for English, French and German. My degree has honed my language skills and taught me the techniques of learning the tricky grammar and vocabulary of a language. I was required to write up to 2 essays, 4 translations and complete language-class work every week - so I really know how to structure work well and smoothly go between different languages!
Aside from my studies, I have a strong interest in sport, current affairs, literature and cooking. I am an avid reader and would gladly incorporate reading books or news articles into lessons in order to help students understand a language.
Availability: Available all week.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I previously tutored a young French boy in languages while I was at school, which led to him successfully passing his compulsory English language exam. In his lessons I spoke both French and English (sometimes needing to explain difficult words in French) and based them around his preferences. I also volunteered as part of the SHINE Literacy scheme where I helped children in junior school who had recently moved to the UK to develop their spoken and written English.
During my recent year abroad I perfected my spoken and written French and German while working alongside native speakers at a university in Austria and in a company in Paris, working with students and adults. My Paris job had me speaking French in a professional environment with my colleagues and local customers as well as writing articles to be published on the company website. In Austria I worked as a teacher`s assistant for half a year with a class of over 20 international students whom I helped to improve their spoken and written English and German. In this position I was required to lead the classes in pre-planned lessons focused on improving the students vocabulary and grammar and I also had one-on-one sessions with students to go-over their English and German interpretation.
