Information about Joanie
I am an experienced science and geology teacher and tutor with over 10 years post-graduation experience. I also hold a TQUK Certificate in Tutoring.
My approach to 1-2-1 tutoring is to first find out what my tutee is looking to gain, so we have a clear goal to work towards. Together, we will then discover what approach works best. I have been a GCSE chemistry examiner since 2014 and therefore have good insight into examination techniques and common mistakes. Coaching for exams is an important aspect of my tutoring, and I am au fait with modern techniques that improve the transfer of knowledge from short-term to long-term memory.

My son is doing his last year of Combined Science and has missed a lot, as have other students alike, during the first lockdown when schools were shut . I wish we had Joanie last year during the first year of my son`s GCSE. Within the first few lessons my son understood theories that should have been taught clearly at school. She is extremely friendly and teaches in an excellent and coherent way. I strongly recommend her.

I cant speak highly enough of Joanie! Shes marvellous! Despite being inundated with pre-GCSE work, she agreed to help my Y9 daughter to catch up in physics. (My daughter had not formally encountered physics before, having attended a Steiner School previously.) She is very accommodating with her time; makes the sessions interesting, relevant, and engaging; and prepares lessons specifically tailored to my daughters needs beforehand. My daughter sat her first physics assessment this week and came home feeling very positive about it, having discovered that she actually knew more about the topic than children who had been in the class from the beginning of the year! I think my daughter summed up our feelings best when she said: I wish Joanie was our school physics teacher.
