Information about Martin

Hold Masters (with distinction) in Economics from University of Cambridge and Bachelors from University College London (1st class). Highly experienced and skilled tutor with the ability to help my students achieve their potential.

Throughout my academic career I have developed an excellent understanding of how to approach the exams, and how to quickly absorb large amounts of information. Over the last 5 years my A* / A rate at A level is well over 95% and all the university students that I‘ve helped have gained a First.

I am now working as a senior economist within the Civil Service. I am passionate about economics and mathematics, and more importantly, passing that passion onto my students.

I now tutor only online during the lockdown in the UK, and have a high-quality webcam, microphone and internet connection. I am able to help flexibly with coursework and examinations during the lockdown.

I have tutored students in economics, econometrics, mathematics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, finance, and a number of other specialist subjects. Given my experience of the Oxbridge interview process, I`m also available to tutor in university entrance exams/interviews and in writing personal statements. Holds Basic DBS certificate.

I`ve been taking lessons with Martin for a few months now and would highly recommend him to others seeking economics tuition. Martin is very organised and began by helping me fashion a structured study plan for going forward, based on the demands of my undergrad level course. During lessons he effectively breaks down economic concepts with concise explanations, and is always prepared to review material as needed. His facility for both the discursive and technical aspects of economics is encouraging, especially when the material is dry and unintuitive! I`ve been very satisfied with my progress so far and look forward to working with Martin for the remainder of my studies.

Initially this tutor was very friendly and approachable. He helped me with some of my assignments and I was thankful for this. However this tutor changed his attitude and behaviour towards me soon after receiving a positive review from me. After just three sessions the tutor began pressuring me to give him a review. Initially I had hired him to help with Econometrics, but when I mentioned I would be looking for someone else to help with Risk Management, the tutor insisted he help me instead with this. This is despite the fact that he doesn`t have a finance background. Soon after January, I noticed the tutor repeatedly cancelling sessions with me. The tutor cancelled two sessions with me last weekend in a row and then two days after, decided to cancel on me completely. This was after he committed to help me with my assignments. The deadlines of my assignments were approaching fast, and so I don`t appreciate this tutor cancelling on me last minute. This is unprofessional. The amount of stress and anxiety I have experienced in the past week has had an enormous effect on my wellbeing. I think tutor hunt should block this tutor from using their services. He takes advantage of people who are struggling with their studies and laughs at them when they don`t understand concepts. This is very cruel and unacceptable. I will be awarding this tutor 3 stars only because he initially helped me with some assignments.

Tutors Response :

Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, a significant amount of this review is untrue and was written vindictively. I am, and have always been, transparent with my students regarding what help I am able to provide, and I honour my commitments to my students. Unfortunately in this case, the student did not uphold their side of our agreement and in many cases submitted my work as their own. As a result I had to cease our arrangements and I reported this to their university.

Martin was an excellent tutor. In a very short space of time, he taught me a whole university module of advanced Economics, Maths and Stats, helping me be more than prepared for the two exams which went very well.

He always turned up when arranged, was always punctual, was very responsive to texts and was very flexible.

He was very good at working with the course material and going through lecture slides, picking out what was important and linking them to past papers.
