Hello, my name is Sofia and I am native Greek. I hold a PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies at the University of Leicester (UK). I am currently living in Leicester and have been working as a Greek tutor in the UK, since 2018. I am interested in teaching people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures. Not only do I have a passion for teaching, but learning too. Over the last three years, I have been learning Spanish. Finally, I am also an art and history lover.

I understand that every person is different, therefore, I organize and structure my lessons based on students’ needs, interest, age and level, respecting their rhythm to learn and offering relaxing, comfortable and engaging environment to practice the language. In our first lesson, I would love to find out more about your interests, your goals, and your motivation to learn Greek. Likewise, the first lesson presents a valuable opportunity for me to consider your needs and feelings, and allows me devise a learning plan that is suitable and enjoyable for you.

I believe that the best way to learn a language is to speak that language. Hence, our lessons will mostly be based on conversations through which you will get a better understanding of Greek grammar rules. We will also work on pronunciation, listening, reading, vocabulary, syntax and grammar, whilst giving you an insight into Greek culture, history and music.

Experience: I have three years’ worth of experience teaching Modern Greek as a second and foreign language both in Greece and in the UK. I collaborate with adults as well as children, and my aim is to make my lessons enjoyable and productive. I have acquired a great deal of experience in tutoring; for adults, I have experience teaching at an A1 Level (Beginners) to B2 (Upper Intermediate) and for children, primary school to GCSE. I currently teach Modern Greek in private lessons, live or on-line, having students from all over the world.
