Experience: I have completed a Secondary to Primary Conversion course initiated by Principal Resourcing. I passed my OCR (Level II) and QTS tests in ICT, Literacy & Numeracy. I am registered with the GTC and I have gained QTLS Status through IfL (Institute for Learning). I have undertaken modules in MTL (Master in Teaching & Learning) and have completed my PGCE in Post 16 Education through the University of Huddersfield at Joseph Priestley College (now Leeds City College) part-time in the evening.
Currently I teach at Aspire-igen, a non-profit organisation that provides vocational courses for young people 16-19 year old. I also worked at Bradford College PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) as a HLTA. Before this, I taught functional skills and GCSE Maths and English at a sixth form college, The Maltings College. Prior to this post, I was employed by Kirklees College as Student Attendance & Achievement Officer. I offered IAG and made sure that the students were on track, their punctuality was good and there were no behaviour or other issues that may hinder their progress, I am able to teach Functional Skills and ESOL in Adult Education and also out of school activities/sports. I do youth work with disengaged youngsters and those with learning difficulties. I also hold a casual post with Kirklees Council as a Residential Care Officer. I taught Functional skills and JCP (Job Centre Plus)/ESOL classes at Leeds City College and EFL classes at Sheffield College.
I have taught Functional Skills at Wakefield College and as a Pastoral Tutor, I provided IAG and helped students develop transferable skills, work skills and managed Learning to Learn programme. I have also covered ESOL classes and taught Functional Skills and Independent Living Skills to students with varying needs at Leeds City College and prior to this, I taught learners with special educational needs at St. Annes (many came from deprived backgrounds some were homeless, ex-drug addicts or ex-alcoholics etc.) Before this, I was part of McDonalds Academy and I have taught a Pre-Apprenticeship Course, Functional Skills and Adult Education at Rotherham College. I helped students to brush up their literacy and numeracy and employability skills so they could go on to full apprenticeship. I have also taught basic literacy & numeracy and out of school activities at Barnsley PfS Centre.
As an ITT (Initial Teacher Training) Student, I taught MFL (Modern Foreign Languages at Roundhay High School and my last placement was at Batley Girls High School. Previous to this, I have taught literacy foundation level as part of Basic Skills (Communication) to students with challenging behaviour at Hillsborough College. I have undertaken Literacy assignments as a Basic Skills Tutor for Park Lane College (now City College) and N.V.Q. Training in Retail & Warehousing Operations on behalf of Wakefield College.
My degree is in Combined Arts (English Literature & Theology) and therefore, I have the confidence to teach humanities
