Information about John
I specialise in Online Tutoring. It allows me to share my screen, which I can write on, and for the student to share their screen if they use a surface or iPad pro-type device. You can also use a mobile phone or webcam. I have taught at one of the UK`s top private schools for the last 20 years. I have had equal success in helping gifted students who study maths at top universities and students who find maths hard and want to gain the minimum standard.
I have tutored people of all ages, from primary school to university entrance.
From a non-maths point of view, my primary skill has been advising students on how to prepare for all their exams and guiding them to the university places they want. In my last year in this role, 100% of my tutees acquired places at their first-choice universities.
I find that 30-minute Lessons work best for primary-aged children and can offer this service.
I can say that the Tutor Hunt interface is very impressive. I have used both Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which is better and easier than both.
Availability: I currently have one place free. I limit my numbers in term time as I teach full-time GCSE, A level, and A level Further Maths and IB SL /HL Maths at a top school. In my first year on Tutor Hunt, I taught only two students full-time outside of school. One from the site and one by personal recommendation. They both attained A grades. One went from an E to an A in a year, the other from a D to an A in three months. Of course, they may have benefitted from their generous teachers, but this is only likely to have helped by a grade at most. Last year, I helped three students by personal recommendation but none through Tutor Hunt.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have taught Maths for 30 years been a Head of Department and prepared the following syllabuses in one of the UK`s top schools. GCSE, IGCSE, and International Baccalaureate in both HL and SL. A level Mathematics and A level Further Mathematics. I have taught the Edexcel and OCR boards. Currently, I am teaching at Wellington College.
I have been making videos for YouTube for over 12 years and doing these for my students. All lessons are recorded, and students can access them afterwards to go over them if they forget what has been taught.
