My specialism is in teaching reading to struggling learners (including students with a SpLD such as mild to severe dyslexia)of all ages. About 20% of children still leave school with poor literacy skills. I feel passionately that EVERYONE is entitled to have good reading, writing and spelling skills. I use a phonics-based multi-sensory approach to help learners improve their reading, writing and spelling. I am familiar with phonics resources from Jolly Phonics, Read, Write Inc., Letters and Sounds. I also use the `Alpha to Omega`programme for dyslexic students.

Regardless of age and ability, I find that the greatest barrier to reading fluency is lack of confidence. However, my enthusiasm, encouragement and great patience, with all of my students, leads to increased confidence and motivation, as their literacy skills improve.

I also teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language) to ESOL students and English Language (Functional Skills at Entry Level and Levels 1 & 2 to young people and adults. I have spent 15 years living and working in Holland and I am a fluent Dutch speaker. I tutor students one-to-one in the Ellesmere Port / Chester / Helsby / Frodsham / Widnes area.

Availability: Late afternoons and evenings throughout the week and weekends.

Experience: Having taught Functional Skills English and ESOL at a local College of Further Education, in a Wirral-based Lifelong and Family Learning Service and (currently) in Widnes, I have gained valuable experience in supporting students at all ability levels, including those with SpLD (dyslexia) Speech and Language difficulties, mental health problems, as well as mild/moderate learning difficulties, such as Autistic Spectrum Condition and Down`s Syndrome. I tutor adults and children with reading, writing and spelling difficulties at my own home and theirs. I also tutor EFL students, supporting their speaking & listening, reading and writing skills. Finally I have experience of teaching Dutch to adults.
