Information about Dingyu
Hey, I`m Ding!
My mum always said to me that there`s no point of learning or memorising something if you don`t understand the intuition behind what`s going on. Over the years, this is one of the only things that I`ve found to hold true for everyone - whether it`s for my classmates, my tutees, or myself. I only consider my lessons a success if my student fully understands the reason behind a concept, and then good exam scores come naturally afterwards!
I am comfortable with teaching maths (including further maths), computer science (including programming), and chemistry up to A-level standard, and physics to GCSE, but younger students are also very welcome. I`m flexible with lesson content: I can introduce students to a new concept, go over past exam questions, or work to consolidate already-taught knowledge; what we cover depends on the student on a case-by-case basis! Supplementary questions and homework are optional but happily provided if desired.
Coming from a working class background, I studied at standard comprehensive state schools in Southampton and Newcastle until the age of 16.
In 2015, I was fortunate enough to have attended Eton College as a sixth-form scholar on a 100% bursary - an opportunity I`m incredibly grateful for. After taking a while to acclimatise, I proved my worth by attaining an Oppidan Scholarship: a prestigious title awarded only to those in the top 10% of the academic cohort.
After leaving Eton, I studied Computing (MEng) at Imperial College London and graduated last summer with a First.
I have volunteered as a personal tutor in the past - at Eton and otherwise - to help A-level students aim for top marks in their maths and science exams. As part of my studies at Imperial, I taught computer science and programming to a class of six A-level students at a local school over half a year in preparation for their final exams. In total, I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience, and I am now looking to offer private lessons online.
My A-level grades are as follows:
Maths A*
Further Maths A*
Chemistry A*
Physics A*
Economics A.D1 (Cambridge Pre-U)
Outside of academics, I`m a big nerd when it comes to photography, cycling, chess, climbing, and playing the piano. I`m currently on a gap year and am planning on travelling in spring - next up are Israel and Cuba (as long as we don`t learn more of the Greek alphabet in 2022...)
I`m always happy to chat and answer any questions - feel free to shoot me a message and we can work out a plan that suits both of us.
I`m also more than happy to advise prospective students or parents on UCAS or entry to Eton. Dream big and work hard - I`m looking forward to meeting you :)
