Tutoring works because it recognises everyone is different. Our backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and genes all play a part in how we learn.
I love teaching English. I enjoy seeing Sixth Formers celebrating the results that have won them a place at Oxbridge, but even more from students who I have tutored from halfway through Year 11 opening their envelope on results day and jumping for joy. The students who have never found English second nature, who have not picked up the habit of reading books every evening; helping these students unlock English GCSE is my specialism.
Especially if you feel your child has any traits of a ‘hunter in a farmer’s world’ (often forgetting where they have put things, procrastinating, forgetting important tasks, lots of energy, pulled into online gaming for countless hours), then they have an awesome superpower with many strengths, but some aspects of the mainstream classroom are not the always the optimum learning spaces for them. With 30 years teaching experience and empathy for other ‘hunters’, I will raise their grades, and, as importantly, guide them to becoming the best learners in other subjects too.

Availability: I am available on evenings after school and on Saturday mornings and I will set and mark homework.

Experience: The most important thing for most learners is having a teacher they get on with, who believes in them and motivates them. Of course the tutor also needs to be an expert in their subject.
With a degree in English from the University of London and a PGCE teaching degree from West London, I have the experience of teaching and tutoring for 30 years from Isleworth to Inverness. I have been a Head of English in top private and in state secondary schools.
My enthusiasm for the subject will come through, although I will do my best to hide my passion for Chelsea FC
