Experience: I am an enthusiastic, passionate university graduate in English and American Literature BA (Hons). I have studied English for over five years; including GCSE, A-Level and my University course. I have experience proofreading and editing various student`s essays and coursework pieces. During my time studying I have covered the following texts and genres in depth (not limited to these);
- The Romantic period: Keats, Wordsworth, Shelley, Coleridge, Byron, etc., Mary Wollstonecraft`s `A Vindication to the Rights of Women`, Mary Shelley`s Frankenstein, plenty of other feminist literature during the era, as well as various criticism surrounding it.
- Postcolonial Literature: Conrad`s Heart of Darkness, EM Forster`s Passage to India, Wide Sargasso Sea, A Grain of Wheat, The Farming of Bones, George Orwell, Voyage in the Dark, Larsen`s Passing, Lolita, The Sorrow of War, as well as criticism from Homi Bhabha, Frantz Fanon, Paul Gilroy, Edward Said, etc.
- Modernism: Goodmorning Midnight by Jean Rhys, Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, TS Eliot, Wallace Stevens poetry, Virginia Woolf, criticism from Walter Benjamin etc.
- Victorian Literature: Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Oscar Wilde, Christina Rossetti, Lord Tennyson`s Maud, Robert Browning, many of Dickens`s novels such as; Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, etc.
- Eighteenth Century Literature & Culture: Gulliver`s Travels, Richardson`s Pamela, Horace Walpole, Tristram Shandy, Frankenstein, Journal of the Plague Year, print culture such as The Tatler, The Spectator, Lady Montagu
- Fable/Fairy tale literature: Edgar Allan Poe, Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Anderson, Angela Carter`s Bloody Chamber, Bruno Bettelheim`s The Uses of Enchantment, etc.
I am able to teach any other texts not listed on here, these are just examples of things I am very well acquainted with! I would like to be able to teach my subject to other students, as well as children, in order to help them gain a more intimate, clear understanding of complex novels, plays and poetry. I will be more than happy to prepare in advance some basic revision notes and any useful material which will be given each lesson alongside the tutoring. I can also proofread coursework, essays, and give advice on editing pieces.
I look forward to working with you! :)
