Information about Paul
I am an experienced professional tutor and qualified teacher (QTS) with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology from the University of Exeter, a Ph.D. in Geology & Zoology from the University of Bristol and a PGCE (masters level Post Graduate Certificate in Education Secondary Education Science with Chemistry Specialism) from the University of Brighton
Prior to becoming a professional teacher I have lectured and undertook research in Universities & Museums around the world including Bristol, Birmingham, Imperial College London, Portsmouth, Tokyo (Japan) and Miami (USA). For over 13 years I worked at the Natural History Museum in London as a Curator and lastly as the Registrar with a responsibility for managing 150+ scientists and 75 million specimens. Most recently I decided that I wanted to pass on my passion for science and I have been teaching science from Year 7 to A level in secondary schools and colleges in Surrey & West Sussex.
I have published many scientific papers, articles, encyclopaedia entries and have written two scientific books and have acted as a scientific consultant to many BBC and other TV programmes including working with David Attenborough on series such as the Life of Birds.
I am a member of the Association for Science Education and I am one of three Honorary Patrons of the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Due to my scientific knowledge and experience in education I have served on the executive board and as a trustee for many organisations including Museums Association, Collections Trust, Palaeontographical Society, Geologists Association, Haslemere Educational Museum amongst others.
