Information about Jamie
I am a 26 year-old PhD candidate in English at Queen Mary, University of London (ranked 9th in the UK for research*).
I hold an MA in English from University College London (ranked 7th in QS World University Rankings), and a first-class degree (1:1) in BA (Hons) English Literature from the University of Westminster.
Prior to my final year of study at the University of Westminster, my BA in English was a joint-honours degree with Creative Writing.
I can tutor students in English and Creative Writing as primary subjects (up to degree level), and provide lessons in Geography (inc. Geology), Philosophy, Biology, Business Studies, Media Studies, and Film Studies as secondary subjects (up to A-level). Given my academic credentials, prospective tutees can expect to improve their study skills and critical thinking at all qualification levels with my guidance and support. I am also able to offer concentrated proofreading and editing sessions to help improve the clarity and readability of a tutee`s writing.
I aim to provide a casual, relaxed atmosphere, wherein a pupil does not feel intellectually inadequate, patronised, or pressured to conjure up the `right` answer on demand. We are outside of the classroom, and therefore do not require such an unnecessarily regimented approach to learning!
I will endeavour to identify a pupil`s preferred method of learning (how they best acquire and retain knowledge), and empower each individual by letting them travel through a syllabus at a pace they are comfortable with.
I would also encourage pupils to book sessions with me for any kind of academic issue within my specialist areas and quoted level of qualification supported: if they are struggling with the basics of a subject, need someone to refresh their memory about something that seems hazy and distant, improve their understanding of the English language, or simply review a theory or concept that hasn`t quite clicked in class.
"I never teach my pupils I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn." - Albert Einstein.

**both Queen Mary and UCL are Russell Group universities.
Availability: I am available from Friday to Tuesday, including weekends. I am based in Kettering, and can offer sessions in the surrounding area (Weekly, Warkton, Pytchley, Cranford, Burton Latimer, Barton Seagrave, etc.).
I am unable to teach from home due to my current living arrangements, therefore, any prospective tutees must be able to facilitate learning in their own residence, or, if preferred, provide an alternative learning environment.
I am currently in the process of obtaining a DBS certificate, and will update my profile once I have cleared the check.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
