Information about Huw
Academic excellence in mathematics, management and economics. Extensive professional experience, working on national technology strategy for the UK government and in finance.
Patient, customised tuition, providing clear, step-by-step explanations of concepts and methods to build understanding to achieve academic and professional success!
I believe that it is crucial to impart a developed understanding of the subject to create solid foundations and then build question answering techniques on top of them. This will allow students to improve their confidence in tackling exam questions whilst building the enthusiasm and general problem solving abilities that they will need to be successful at university. I will be living in the Derbyshire area until September. I am willing to build long term teaching relationships in which the learning requirements of each student are understood and responded to, thus allowing their capabilities with the subject to be developed as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.
I have the following experience in teaching.
I was the co-founder of the Cranfield School of Management Management Consulting Society, which entailed teaching a large number of students about interview skills and how to solve the example problems that they would be tested on during interviews (called case studies).
I prepared detailed lessons about case interview practice skills, with presentations and simulations of case study interviews and used patience and a detailed understanding of business, strategy and economics to help students pass their interviews. I received many complements from students, and the success of the society was such that I was able to recruit four new leaders to further develop the society in the current academic year.
I have held a volunteer leadership role for The St Luke`s Hospice, a major charity that helps thousands of terminally ill people every year. I was responsible during 2013 and 2014 for the induction and training of new volunteers for one of the charity`s largest ever fundraising partnerships (with the Meadowhall Shopping centre) and for managing many of its fundraising events.
I also have considerable experience teaching A-Level and GCSE maths and economics over the past years since December 2013.
