I believe that all young people can succeed in English and with the right support, achieve at least their target grades.
With the new 100% exam based GCSE, it is vital that students have a secure knowledge about what each question is asking and what a good answer actually looks like.

I really enjoy teaching and have high standards for all my students. My teaching skills have been recognised and mentioned during Ofsted inspections in two recent schools and during monitoring visits by Department of Education at another school. Examples of how and when my teaching skills have been commended can be provided to parents along with a detailed chronology of how my different teaching groups have performed.

I know how important it is that parents feel confident that a tutor has the right skills and knowledge to support their child and I make my tutoring accessible, and clearly planned, so parents and students can see evidence of the progress being made.

As part of my tutoring support,each student has a personalised programme and resources. These are shared with parents and progress towards specific learning targets is monitored and reviewed each session. This leaves time to reinforce and revise any areas of weakness.

After assessing each student, I put together a programme that makes clear reference to the GCSE Assessment Objectives, mark schemes and marks available for each question. This helps keep sessions clear and motivational for students.

With this detailed and friendly approach, I am sure that each student will become more confident and successful in their English.

I recognise that tutor fees are expensive and will therefore provide the first session free and spend time listening to parents and students so you can be sure of a personalised and encouraging tuition programme. I am always happy to answer any questions outside the booked time.

To meet recent requests, I have started tutoring via Zoom and will switch back to " face to face" when guidance permits. Student and parent feedback is encouraging so I will continue to infer this until. Guidance changes.

My priority is to make sure each student feels comfortable and that the tutoring is worthwhile.

Experience: I have been teaching over 30 years in a variety of schools and positions. I have been a Head of English in four schools, a Lead English Specialist ( advising and supporting other teachers),Examiner and Consultant for a national charity. I have also been a senior leader in schools, including a headteacher post.

My experience has enabled to understand how different people learn but also to develop proven teaching and tutoring approaches to ensure progress and examination success.

I have wide experience of teaching GCSE and providing bespoke, high quality support to support students with GCSE, starting secondary school and/or requiring support with revision.
