Information about Rory
I have recently graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leicester. In September, I will be starting a PhD at the University of Bristol within Civil Engineering (Controls & nonlinear dynamics). Supplementary to my education, I have 18 months experience within the Civil & Construction Engineering industry as a Project Manager. I am very passionate and enthusiastic about both maths and physics. They`re fascinating subjects with a lot of reward once understood and applied. Previous to my degree, I gained A Levels in Maths, Biology and Physical Education, as well as an AS level in physics.
Availability: I am available Monday to Friday, day and evenings for most weeks. I may be free on weekends however this must be negotiated and organised in advance.
I can easily work around people`s schedules to suit the most convenient time for them.
I have a car so I am happy to travel.
I offer the first lesson at half price.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have taught/tutored students on undergraduate engineering degrees (Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic & Aerospace) over the 3 years covering engineering mathematics, material science, control & dynamics, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. As a result, I have a very broad knowledge of maths, physics and engineering (interdisciplinary & subject specific). I am happy to teach maths, physics and engineering from secondary school level to degree level. I adapt my approach depending on the student and the level of understanding.
In my opinion, the best way to learn concepts, principles and theorems in maths & physics is through practice questions and examples. It helps a persons understanding and verifies whether the student actually understands the material or if it has just been memorised. Real life examples are very important in my teaching as they help simplify complex principles whilst aiding in its visualisation.
