Information about Zara
I am an experienced English and History tutor with over 8 years of helping GCSE and A-Level students achieve their target grades and beyond. I hold a BA (Hons) in History and Classics and a Masters by Research in History from Royal Holloway, University of London.
Alongside my academic work I am also a poet, social researcher and public speaker, with a deep passion for literature, history and the cultural arts. These interests shape the way I approach teaching and allow me to bring subjects to life in a way that feels engaging and relevant to students.
I believe English and History are about far more than memorising information for exams. They are about understanding ideas, interpreting texts and developing the confidence to express your own perspective clearly.
I particularly enjoy helping students see how literature and history connect to the modern world. By using contemporary examples, cultural references and real-world comparisons, I help students build deeper understanding and develop stronger analytical and comparative skills.
Over the past eight years I have supported students preparing for GCSE and A-Level English and History across AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards, focusing on essay structure, critical analysis and exam technique. I am proud to say that every student I have worked with has achieved their target grade or higher.
My goal is not only to help students succeed in their exams but also to help them develop the confidence and intellectual curiosity that will benefit them long beyond the classroom.
Availability: I primarily offer online lessons, which allow for flexible scheduling and make it easier for students to fit tutoring around school and other commitments. Online sessions are highly interactive and structured, using shared documents and screen sharing to analyse texts, develop essay plans and practise exam-style questions together.
I am generally available during weekday evenings and weekends, which tend to work best for most students. Regular weekly sessions are encouraged to build steady progress, though I am also happy to arrange additional sessions during key revision periods leading up to exams.
Willing to travel: Home Only

I have experience supporting students preparing for AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards, helping them understand exactly what examiners are looking for in high-level responses.
