Information about Glen
I have been teaching in secondary education for 20 years and taught all three sciences across a range of abilities. My friendly approach and sense of humour always puts pupils at ease providing the right frame of mind for them to make progress. Ive always loved science and my enthusiasm for the subject will help any pupil break down barriers they face in learning of this difficult subject.
I have taught KS3 science and GCSE Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I also taught A-level Chemistry for 15 years and will be offering tuition for this in the near future.
Before any tuition sessions I will arrange in advance what topic needs to be covered. This can be done by email, text message or a phone call a few days before the session. This is so that I can bring any learning resources with me, such as information handouts, worksheets and past exam questions. I will bring my laptop so that I can show quick demonstrations of experiments or interactive activities which aid understanding. This is particularly important for GCSE as there are a number of required practicals which are incorporated throughout the exams.
Sometimes pupils can feel a little overwhelmed and feel like they just dont get any of it, and not sure where to start. If there is any uncertainty to where their strengths and weaknesses lie, I will have a chat with them and ascertain where to begin.
Availability: I can tutor in the evenings from 4pm and also weekends.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: For the last 18 years I have worked at Penketh High in Warrington teaching all abilities KS3 and KS4 science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology). I also taught A-level chemistry for 15 years.
Prior to teaching I worked in the chemistry industry for 11 years. I started off as a process operator and worked my way up to Research and Development after receiving a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry.
I did my PGCE at Manchester University in 1999, receiving the Withers Award for best student.
