I am an intellectually curious and results driven individual. This has enabled me obtain a First-Class Honours Maths Degree from Royal Holloway University of London and pass the first half of the professional actuarial exams on my first sitting. I am currently working as an actuarial analyst in the insurance industry for a large global company. I am keen to assist undergraduate actuarial students to achieve their best results and also to pass on what I have learnt from my experience of working in the industry.
I have always approached mathematical and analytical subjects by breaking them down into simple steps, understanding them from the basics and remaining aware of how it all fits into the bigger picture. This is how I teach, being able to explain any concept simply, from a wide range of perspectives and adapting to my audience. Grasping fundamental principles and understanding complex concepts may require extra effort initially, however, it has many advantages. It more easily moulds itself into a student’s enduring long-term memory and then one can adapt and apply this understanding to unfamiliar situations as one frequently needs to do in the working world or in an exam. Just memorising a method quickly fails when being faced with a new scenario.
Here are some things you can expect from tuition with me:
Before our first session, we will discuss what subjects you would like to study and I will ask for any course syllabi you have available.
I will refresh my memory of the course content in preparation for each session.
In each session we will establish learning outcomes.
We will go over theory and work through examples together. We will discuss how anything we learn might relate to a job in industry. I will assess your understanding so as to assist you to be fully prepared to tackle the whole range of problems you could face on the topic.
In relation to any exams or coursework, we will establish strategy and a plan to approach them in the best and most efficient way possible.
We will constantly review achievement of the study goals we set together.

Experience: `To teach is to learn.` Whilst at college and university, I privately tutored Maths up to A Level and Science up to GCSE to many students and peers. This helped reinforce my own understanding of the subjects and taught me how differently people approach learning. Doing this developed my ability to recognise learning habits and adapt to them efficiently. Where possible, I would come up with concrete examples of many difficult topics to help increase understanding.
I have tutored high achievers to enable them to push themselves further and others who wouldn’t describe themselves that way. No matter the type of student, we have always achieved better than expected and good results.
For the last two years I have been working as an actuarial analyst whilst also studying for some of the most difficult exams one can embark on. I frequently help colleagues and actuarial students with exams I have already taken.
Growing up I played competitive basketball at a local club. I became a qualified basketball coach and helped establish a homework club and subsidised tuition for members whilst a member of the committee.
