GCSE panic? A level anxiety? I can help. I am a mature qualified teacher with a variety of experience in High School teaching. My main subject is English and I have worked with students aspiring to pass English and English Literature. In addition I have experience in aiding students with a variety of learning difficulties and I love to be able to teach them strategies to reach their potential. I have been able to successfully discover the real barriers to my tutees` learning and offer practical help and advice.

In addition to English, I also teach History, as my BA was English and History joint honours. (This website did not allow me to add both subjects to my qualifications!) I passed the CELTA course, which is the Cambridge qualification for teaching English as an additional language, which I studied in Athens(2014).

I am enthusiastic and practical, believing that everyone should enjoy learning. I was a mature student myself so I have first hand experience of some of the difficulties and confidence problems which are encountered by those returning to study.

I teach my subject but also teach various techniques for essay planning, how to revise, exam strategies and how to be a confident writer. I believe these to be essential for exam success.

I am happy to offer my first lesson half price and would also be able to teach small groups of students, especially those who want to boost their revision.

I have a degree, QTS through the GTP,PGCE and am currently completing a Masters in Teaching but have not been able to attach them to this site as I do not have a scanner.

Availability: I prefer weekends. I am also available outside of term time.

Experience: I have worked in a variety of High Schools, teaching classes, small groups and 1:1, often bringing students on the C/D borderline to exam success. I have worked with a variety of learning difficulties, from dyslexia to Irlens, hyperlexia to dygraphia.

My last but one tutee was predicted C grades in English Literature and English Language. In fact she achieved an A and a B and raised her grades in other subjects. I saw her once a fortnight throughout year 10 and up to her exams in year 11. My last tutee had failed his English Literature but after 4 months re-sat and achieved a Grade B...we await this summer`s results with baited breath.
