Information about Marios
My name is Marios and I am currently in the 5th year of my Mphys Theoretical Physics degree at The University of Edinburgh.
In the past, I have tutored undergraduate students struggling with courses in Mathematics, Engineering and Physics courses. I helped them with difficulties in both their understanding of the material and with relevant coursework. This was done through mostly one to one sessions and also some classes involving 10-20 people. In recognition of my teaching I have been awarded the `Edinburgh Award`.
The lesson structure for each student will depend on their individual needs, thus a general approach to each lesson is not an effective plan. My main strategy however, is to first identify the weaknesses and gaps in knowledge of the students. I will then plan out my lesson`s structure according to the individual needs of the student. Of course, I am also open to hearing the student`s own opinion about the structure and content of each lesson. In summary, each one of my lessons is highly flexible, with the reason being that a flexible lesson offers efficiency and effectiveness.
In regards to my philosophy in teaching, I find it particularly important that tutees not only get a quick answer to their question, but that they also gain a deeper understanding of the material. To achieve this, I personalise each lesson according to each student`s background. Not only that, I like to challenge students with unconventional questions to test their abilities. From my personal experience with students, I can tell that this is the most common of difficulties. It is not a rare occurrence for students to be able to understand the core material, but to struggle with unfamiliar questions. This type of questions are essential for students, as they challenge their skill in extrapolating from their current knowledge. Such a skill is not only important for just one exam, but also further down the career of a student.
Lastly, I enjoy answering questions even outside the classroom. Therefore, I welcome additional questions students may have through e-mail and I aim to respond to them as quickly as possible.

Experience: - Fifth year undergraduate student, studying Theoretical Physics with a current average of over 85%.
- Two year long tutoring/mentoring of undergraduate students in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering. Their backgrounds included Scottish Highers, A-levels, GCSEs and International Baccalaureate. Most of the tutoring sessions were one-to-one.
- I have been awarded the "Edinburgh Award" in recognition of contributing for more than 50 hours of my time in the voluntary tutoring of students.
- Additionally, I participated in research internships concerning computational molecular dynamic simulations as well as mathematical modelling in population dynamics.
