Information about Sophie

I am a friendly and professional DPhil student studying Chemistry at Oxford University, with over 150 hours of tutoring in the past year. I am a patient person, and as someone at university, I understand the stresses of studying to pass exams to move to the next stage of education. I aim to allow my students to feel very comfortable asking any questions to ensure they have a full grasp of the subject area, whilst also aiming to provoke an interest in the subject. I intend to focus on exam technique, as for school science exams (GCSE and A-Levels), the structure and wording of a student`s answer will determine how many marks are scored. By targeting the wording of answers to the specific syllabus, I am confident I can ensure marks are high as questions are often repeated.

Academic Record

I received five offers for Chemistry from Imperial, Bristol, Durham, Bath and York. I have an excellent academic record starting with 12 A* and 2 As in my GCSEs. At A-Level, I gained an A* in Chemistry, and an A in Maths and Geography, as well as an A at AS-Level Physics and Latin. I then achieved a high first in my MSci at Imperial College London, where I was also awarded a prize for my marks in Organic Chemistry.

Extra-curricular Academic Record

In sixth form I was in the top 10% in the Maths Challenge and was put forward to the second round, where I won a Gold Award. I also participated in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. I received a prize in the final year of sixth form for academic endeavour.

Having gone through the UCAS process, I also enjoy being able to discuss others through their higher education options. I can provide suggestions for recommended reading for personal statements or general interest.
