Information about Jessica
I am a final year PhD student in the University of Bristol School of Chemistry. I aspire to a career in scientific research and am keen to pass on my passion for science to others by teaching. So far my programme has allowed me to work in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and biochemistry research labs gaining a wide range of experience and expertise. I have a masters degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge where I studied Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry (MSci 2.1, Masters Project 1st) . At school I studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (A level A*A*A*A*), Psychology, Further Mathematics (AS level A,A). Throughout my education I have benefited from excellent tuition and understand the difference it can make. I hope I can provide the same help which might encourage others to stay in science! I`m happy to tutor Chemistry and Biology up to A level and Physics and Mathematics to GCSE. I`m able to tutor online and do not have a car but can travel locally or arrange tuition at my home or another location. Where relevant I`m also happy to help with science university applications and interview techniques. Please get in touch if you have any questions!
Availability: Weekday evenings
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I have previous experience tutoring A Level, GCSE and KS2 Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. I teach first year undergraduate chemistry turoials. I have also tutored for school entrance exams, interview preparation and lead Chemistry Olympiad extension classes for sixth form students. I have volunteered in multiple science outreach programs helping to teach and inspire young people in science. Outside academia I also volunteer with a youth charity teaching young people to sail.
My approach to tutoring will depend entirely on the goals of the student. I am happy to offer focused sessions on areas that present particular challenges, extension sessions on areas of particular interest, exam-focused revision or technique sessions or broader curriculum based teaching. I often find that working through question sheets is helpful in identifying target areas. Particularly if I am made aware of the students goals for each session in advance I will be able to prepare new explanations and examples to aid understanding.
