Information about James
Unfortunately, I am unavailable for tutoring for the foreseeable future.
I am a final year student at University College London (UCL) studying a degree in Maths and Economics, who has averaged a high first class in both years and completed an internship at Goldman Sachs. Having been a tutor for the past 5 years and achieving 4A*s at A-Level as well as A* in all 11 subjects at GCSE, I feel extremely confident in my ability to tutor all students up to A-levels.
My results whilst tutoring speak for themselves, helping a student being awarded a scholarship for Eltham College as well as a strong set of GCSEs for another student including two 9s. I have also helped at Year9/10 level, guiding a student to their strongest end of year exam results to date. My feedback (on this website) highlights the parents perspective of my tuition- where I`m not just strong tutoring the academics but also help the student enjoy the process of learning. I feel one of my biggest advantages is that being of a similar age, I am able to relate to their worries and concerns and therefore build a rapport with them, which assists with their development.
I achieved an average of 98% in Mathematics A-Level and 88% in Further Mathematics. Furthermore, my Economics papers are to be used by the school next year as exemplars to future students. Also, at GCSE level I achieved A* in all 11 subjects as well as the maximum grade of A in the notoriously difficult Free Standing Maths Qualification. Therefore, I feel I have the academic credentials to tutor those wanting to improve and excel in their subjects.
Additionally, I played three sports for the school first team and the piano, showing I understand the importance of time management and pressures of school life. Furthermore, I often worked with younger children, having coached a Year 7 Football Team and been a prefect to Year 10 students. This role allowed me to help the children manage the growing pressure of public exams and I am more than willing to pass on any of this non-curriculum advice including the process of choosing GCSE subjects.
I believe that tutoring should be a more personal form of education outside of school, leading to increased success in both school and public, which is something that I believe I provide.

I have tutored 7 students over the past 5 years across a vast range of ages and subjects.
Despite the unprecedented situation this year, my work in the latter part of 2019 proved pivotal with 2 different GCSE students increasing their predicted grades after mocks in January following sessions with myself by 2 and 3 levels. This ultimately was what determined their final GCSE results this August.
In 2019, I had an excellent set of results, with a student achieving level 9 in Maths and Physics GCSE, whilst another achieving a level 8 in Physics. In each case, these were improvements by 2 levels from earlier predicted grades. Furthermore, a student achieved an A* in Maths A-level following 5 months of my tuition.
Previously, I regularly tutored a student in Maths and Science at KS3 Level whilst the other passed his GCSE Maths with A* this summer. My third from that year was awarded a scholarship for Eltham College (a highly competitive private school.)
I have always been reliable and punctual and enjoy engaging with the student- which is all supported by their feedback comments. I`m excited to continue tutoring in my final year of university and know that my experiences over the past 5 years can continue to help students excel in exams.
