Experience: I have just finished a year teaching in Saudi Arabia, and I am currently undertaking a Phd at King`s. My position in Saudi Arabia has proved an invaluable experience. Prior to these roles I was working as a researcher and telemarketer at Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs), and I also have a masters and bachelors degree from SOAS (Development Studies) and the LSE (Geography) respectively. Both of these degrees were essay based, and my English Language skills are excellent.
In Saudi Arabia I was teaching learners from age 18 to 21. Not only was this challenging in terms of class sizes and discipline, but also adjusting to a different culture. These challenges have been extremely rewarding. I have thus come out of the other end with some excellent classroom skills. We used a variety of textbooks at the college, often at very short notice and I am extremely adaptable in this respect. Smart Board technology and other interactive tools are used extensively, alongside more traditional learning techniques. Meanwhile, I wrote exams which are used throughout Saudi Arabia.
The level of English I taught at the college ranged from complete beginner to advanced English (including students specializing in hospital administration and business). Meanwhile, I also organised extracurricular business-English training sessions for a variety of Saudi students.
I have extensive private tutoring experience, including teaching Geography for A-Level, GCSE and degree levels. I have also taught History at all levels up to A-Level, and English Language and Literature. I have also taught English as a foreign language in the UK and in Egypt, in addition to my experience in Saudi Arabia.
