I tutor maths from primary (KS2) to secondary (KS3) and GCSE level. I also offer tuition for the QTS numeracy skills test for student teachers.

I tutor maths from a dedicated studio in Disley.

Pupils visit me from Disley, High Peak, Hazel Grove, High Lane, Poynton, Marple, Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Mellor and Bollington. I also tutor online to pupils nationally and internationally.

I have a 100% success rate in helping pupils pass their GCSE maths exam. Furthermore, I can always bring about an improvement in primary and secondary level pupils.

This improvement can often be brought about by simply helping pupils with the basic fundamentals of maths such as numeracy, fractions, percentages, algebra and geometry for instance. This alone is all it takes to provides the pupil with a boost in confidence and ability, which then enables them to progress on to achieving higher levels at school.

I have a friendly, patient and informal approach to tutoring where students can learn in a relaxed and no pressure environment.

I have tutored maths for around 20 years across all levels and have a friendly and approachable manner. I adapt the lessons to each individual pupil according to their learning styles and needs.

I spent 7 years as a Senior Lecturer at university before I left to offer full-time tuition, as this is what I enjoy the most and is where I feel I can make the greatest impact on student performance. I am also a tutor with the Open University.

I have a first class degree and PhD from the University of Manchester (1995 & 1998) both of which are essentially the application of advanced mathematics and physics.

I have been an Associate member of the Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning for promoting learner autonomy and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I hold teaching qualifications and an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) certificate.

Experience: I first started private tutoring 20 years ago whilst I was a postgraduate researching my PhD at the University of Manchester.

I have gained lots of experience tutoring across all levels and age groups from primary school to adult learners.

I have held the post of Senior Lecturer within a university setting and taught mathematically focussed subject material up to Masters level. Whilst in this position, I was predominantly helping those students that found maths particularly challenging and difficult. As a result, I have gained a lot of experience in helping pupils overcome their fear of maths and helping them to re-build their confidence in understanding and applying maths.

I have developed lots of techniques and approaches to help explain the often abstract concepts of maths in easy to understand jargon-free language.


I now concentrate on private tutoring primary, secondary and GCSE maths as this is the area where I feel I can make the most difference.
