Information about Penelope
Not everyone will be entitled to extra tuition at school, but everyone needs it. If you really want to make up for what you have lost in your English education, then contact me. One hour, face-to-face with me, is worth a month of online lessons (easily). I don`t waste a second in any of my sessions; I`m exacting, adaptable, knowledgeable and straightforward.
I`m a fully qualified English Teacher with 15 years classroom experience and 4 years experience as a one-to-one tutor. I no longer teach full time in school, so I can focus on my individual students. Past successes are many. Last year, for instance, I helped a 17-year-old student pass his English GCSE after two previously failed attempts. It didn`t take that long, either - just a bit of focus from the student and consistent input from me. Not long after that, a student who wasn`t particularly interested in English, achieved a grade 8 in her mocks. Again, hard work, good teaching and focus were the key.
Whatever your needs, I can adapt. Everything is tailored exclusively for you.
Introductory session is half-price. In this session, I`ll get to know you, diagnose your needs and come up with a plan to improve your English.
Availability: I am flexible to teach weekdays and weekends, via Skype or in person. Please get in touch to arrange a suitable day where I can fit you in.

Experience: I was a secondary school English teacher for 15 years, teaching all years from 7 to 11. I can teach any aspect of English to any secondary school student of any ability. I am also happy (and qualified) to teach adults. My personal favourite is creative writing; I know that this is very important in a child`s development, both academically and personally. I`m "old school" when it comes to spelling and grammar and have worked out some devious and successful ways of getting my students to improve this aspect, without boring them with tedious and repetitive exercises.
I have been tutoring both in schools and privately since 2017. For the most part, I have taught year 10 and year 11 students, preparing them for GCSE. All of my students have done well, with most improving their grades by 2 levels - some by more.
I love English language and English literature. I also love teaching. Please call me!

Penelope held my son between his two sets of mocks & his grades for both literature & language increased by 2! He won`t now be sitting the exams due to the corona virus so the increase has helped immensely. Highly recommended and details will be kept for next year when my other son starts year 10.

Very calm, friendly and knowledgeable tutor. She has been wonderfully understanding adapting sessions to encourage and support my daughter. Early days but am sure her tutoring will make a huge difference to my daughters confidence and progress.
