Information about Tory

I am a qualified English teacher with three years of teaching experience, currently working as a teaching assistant for pupils with special needs in a comprehensive high school. I strive as a teacher to be a voice of patience and belief in my students` lives. I want to help them achieve the best grades they can, but also to help them find their voices and experience the joy of reading and writing. I teach strategies that spark joy and tailor my teaching to each pupil`s particular needs and strengths. Overall, my approach comes from a deep love for the subject which my students appreciate and respond to, whatever their ability level.

Availability: Available in-home or in the Kings Heath or Yardley Wood areas Tuesdays 5 to 6:30 or Fridays 5 to 8, or Saturday afternoons.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have been teaching since 2013 and tutoring since 2017. I have taught the key stage three curriculum, as well as the AQA GCSE English Language and Literature courses, as both a class teacher and one-to-one tutor; I have also worked with Edexcel as a tutor, and I can learn other exam boards quickly. I have also tutored and taught AQA A-level English Literature, and myself have a first class BA and a Master`s degree in English Literature. My current work is mainly with low ability and special needs pupils, and I have a range of resources and strategies for improving literacy and confidence with reading as well as building effective relationships with pupils with special needs such as autism spectrum disorders. However, I have also successfully helped high achievers to grades 7, 8 and 9 in their GCSEs, drawing on my extensive subject knowledge and ability. I have worked with pupils with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds and have a large bank of resources to draw on.
