Information about Harriet

Hi, my name`s Harriet and I`m currently entering my third year of study at Imperial, where I`m working towards a degree in Mathematics. Before this I studied A-levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, achieving A*s in all. I am currently in the top 10% of my year at Imperial and during my time have also been awarded a prize for my work.

I have always loved teaching. I`ve tutored GCSE students in both Maths and Physics on-and-off since 2013, and in 2015 began tutoring A-level Maths students. In 2015 I also began working in a secondary school around university to give academic support in the Maths department, which I continued until 2017. Here, I taught in both one-to-one settings as well as leading the occasional class. My students` educational requirements ranged greatly - I worked with special educational/behavioural needs as well as the top grade students who needed pushing beyond the class syllabus - but I found it was an incredibly rewarding experience working with all, for both the student and myself.

My lessons are completely customisable towards your child`s needs and goals, whether that`s helping with homework, reinforcing the teaching from school or introducing new topics to further their knowledge span. I encourage a strong communication between both guardian, tutee and myself in order to achieve the tutee`s goals - as soon as I take on a student these goals become personal for me, too.

I really take pride in teaching methods suited for the students rather than just hoping I get students suited for the methods. For me it`s hugely important that my students are taught a skill set which has been tailored specifically for them so that they feel comfortable and self-assured with their work. I strongly believe that confidence in a key factor in establishing academic success, especially within the Maths and Science departments. With my students, I try give them not only the academic tools to succeed but a strong mindset to do so.

Most importantly, once educational grounds are covered, I want my students to have fun in my lessons. I`m patient and encouraging, and I hope my students see me as nothing but a friendly face (no matter how unwelcoming some of them may find the maths!)

Availability: Preferably weekday afternoons/evenings and also weekends - but being a student this can be flexible!
