Information about Umar
Hi there,
I am a medical student at University College London. I attended Reading School where I achieved eight 9s and three 8s at GCSE.
My style of teaching is very much adapted to the need of the student at any given time. I like to focus on building a strong foundation in the understanding of subject knowledge and place huge emphasis on improving a student`s ability to answer exam style questions and over time develop their competency with regards to their exam technique. I also very much enjoy the pastoral role of being a tutor, sharing with my students ways in which they can be more motivated, how to deal with the pressures of important exams and also lifestyle choices they can make to improve their chances of success.
Being a young tutor and recently going through the exams and university application process, I strongly relate to all my students and I often find myself being a mentor to my students, guiding them along a process I have successfully been through.

Experience: Since 2018 I have accumulated four years of teaching experience. I have worked in a tuition center for under 16s and also taught 11+ Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, and Maths. More recently, I have begun private tutoring Maths, Biology and Chemistry for GCSE and also A level students. During my time at Reading School, my flare for Chemistry and Biology was recognised by subject heads and I became a subject mentor for GCSE students. Having been involved in the outreach programme Future Stories, I have a wealth of experience teaching students from a variety of backgrounds, including students who struggle with traditional teaching methods and require a unique, tailored style of delivery. I have also supported students with their personal statements, UCAT, BMAT and medicine interviews. Whilst my background is mainly medical (received offers from UCL, Kings and Southampton) I am also willing to provide support for other science-related subjects.
