Information about Stuart
I am an experienced community tutor and qualified teacher with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a PhD . I believe in inclusive education. I have found that many students may not do well at school for several reasons; for example, they may have special needs such as ADHD meaning they cannot concentrate for long periods, or the teacher may be poor, or the class disruptive. I am interested in helping such students. One-to-one tutoring can help such students because it focuses on the individual student, their strengths and how they learn.
I am interested in the method of Bansho teaching, which simply means `chalkboard` in Japanese. Bansho is a method of engaging children through problem-solving and discussion. It builds on prior learning and links to other parts of the syllabus so that lessons are not taught in isolation. I am trained in the latest teaching methods and tutor maths, chemistry, biology and physics to KS3 and GCSE.
To maintain interest and to help learning, my lessons include images/pictures supporting the teaching and video clips illustrating key points. We call this dual coding as it not only helps the learning process and understanding but also helps commit the learning to long-term memory, which helps recall for exams. My lessons are interactive, including quizzes and multiple-choice, which also check for understanding.
Availability: I am flexible and available weekdays and weekends.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I am a qualified teacher with a PGCE. I taught at a community-led project, All Heads Recognised which provided a community hub and resource for local children in a poorer area. I have tutored for many years in maths, chemistry, biology, physics and combined science to GCSE level. I am familiar with AQA and Edexcel exam boards and their practice papers. I have excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum, the school curriculum and what is required to be taught and when. Recently, I taught at the Ravensbourne School in London.

Stuart has been tutoring my daughter for a while. He has really helped her to better understand Maths. She enjoys her sessions and is growing more confident during the final year of her GCSE`s. Stuart is a very good tutor.
