Information about Gregory
29 years old, English and American citizen, graduate of Eton College, the University of Edinburgh and L`Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris. I am currently working part-time, with tutees in person in London and internationally over skype.
I enjoy sharing knowledge and making discoveries with the knack of making dull things fun and subjects that can seem boring come to life.
Born and raised in London, first I attended Arnold House day school in London. Afterwards I boarded at Summer Fields in Oxfordshire before beginning secondary school at Eton College. Afterwards I moved to Edinburgh to study Politics and graduated MA with Honours (2:1) before relocating to Paris and studying for a Diploma in Theatre and Performance with Philippe Gaulier. These combined make me a highly effective, relatable tutor.
I am a combination of sporty, intellectual and artsy. I play squash, cycle all over town and am a water-sports enthusiast, also a qualified Red Cross Life Guard. Other than academia my passion is for the stage, and I`m a performer now, alongside my work as a tutor. I benefited from having tutors myself, growing up. As an adult, I am a kind, curious, exceptional individual with many skills. I remember the tutors I liked, their methods both successful and less so. I emulate the good ones.
Other experience working with young people includes time spent as a counselor at my old summer camp over in the USA. Camp Shohola, in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. I taught sailing, canoeing and kayaking as well as looked after a cabin full of kids from morning to night. Their ages ranged from 10-12 that year but in previous years I`ve looked after kids between 6 and 9 and young teenagers too. I learned the importance of having inexhaustible energy reserves after my work on the Obama campaign trail back in 2008. Those experiences serve me well to this day.
I am motivated by a Finnish proverb: learn without joy, forget without grief. Sometimes a more methodical approach is appropriate, especially when it comes to exam preparation. For others, variation is critical to keeping things entertaining and productive.
Availability: Available on request.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays homeschooling two teenage boys in a full academic curriculum which includes PE and cultural outings.
I have tutored many subjects in the curriculum, both in person and over skype, from 11+ to GCSE level (Eng Lang / Lit, Maths higher and lower tier, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, French, History, Latin, Ancient Greek). At AS level I have tutored Politics, English Literature, History and French. At A2 level, English, history and politics. Finally, Politics at undergraduate level. I taught Politics A level in an inner city London Academy school, 2017/18.
I have worked with students with special educational needs including dyslexia, dyscalcula and on the spectrum of autism.
I have taught percussion and drama in workshops internationally. I worked as a sailing and canoeing instructor at Camp Shohola for Boys in Greeley, Pennsylvania, USA, in the summer of 2011.
Feedback For Gregory (3)
Greg has been very thorough at introducing our daughter to Politics A Level which she will start officially in September 2020. Lily is concentrating on other subjects now but would have no hesitation in using Greg again should the need arise.
Tutors Response :
Thank you for your feedback.
Please dont hesitate to get in touch again should lily require further politics tuition.
Gregory is utterly brilliant. Hes fantastic with my kids. Super professional. Finally my kids cant wait to study.
I would absolutely recommend Gregory as a tutor, he has a wonderful, naturally friendly approach, has been very helpful in identifying the issues my 13yo daughter has had with schooling, has focused her attention on how best to achieve the results she wants. Gregory has been creative in his approach and has always been very well prepared for the lessons. My daughter looks forward to Gregory`s visits and they have been a great confidence boost for her. Gregory is very approachable and communicative, has always been on time, a very responsible, highly intelligent, disciplined, yet down-to-earth young person! Thoroughly recommend, very positive influence on a child.
