Information about Gregory
32 years old, English and American citizen, graduate of Eton College, the University of Edinburgh and L`Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris. I have recently completed my PGCE and am a Qualified Maths Teacher as of July 2021.
I enjoy sharing knowledge and making discoveries with the knack of making dull things fun and subjects that can seem boring come to life.
I was born and raised in London where I attended Arnold House day school. From the age of 11 I boarded at Summer Fields in Oxfordshire as part of the Scholarship stream which helped me to gain a place at Eton College. During my Gap Year I worked as an Editorial Intern at the Financial Times and on Barack Obama`s first Presidential election campaign before I moved to Edinburgh to study Politics and graduated with an MA (Hons, 2:1). I relocated to Paris and studied for a Diploma in Theatre and Performance with Philippe Gaulier before completing my Schools Direct teacher training in Maths alongside a PGCE. These experiences make me a highly effective and relatable tutor.
I am a combination of sporty, intellectual and artsy. I play squash, cycle all over town and am a water-sports enthusiast as well as a qualified Red Cross Life Guard. Otherwise my passion is for the stage and screen. As an adult, I am a kind, curious, exceptional individual with a range of skills. I benefited from having tutors myself and I remember the tutors I liked, their methods both successful and less so. I emulate the good ones.
Other experiences working with young people include as a counselor at my old summer camp in the USA. I taught sailing, canoeing and kayaking during the day while in the afternoons and evenings I took care of a cabin full of kids. Their ages ranged from 10-12 that year but in previous years I`ve looked after kids between 6 and 9 and young teenagers too. I have inexhaustible energy reserves, a positive outlook and the ability to change and adapt to new challenges and goals.
I am motivated by a Finnish proverb: if you learn without joy you forget without grief. Sometimes a more methodical approach is appropriate, especially when it comes to exam preparation. For others, variation is critical to keeping things entertaining and productive.
Availability: Currently I have good availability in person / online during the week during the day and after school.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have tutored many subjects in the curriculum both in person and online from Key Stage 1 to Undergraduate level.
I specialize in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and the Core Sciences, with expertise in Politics and History with other subjects available on request.
At A level I have tutored Politics, English Literature and History and at Undergraduate level, Politics, Sociology, History and Social Anthropology.
I taught Politics A level in the Harris City Academy school in 2017/18, homeschooled 2 teenage boys in Maths, Sciences and a full program of cultural outings from 2018-2020. I completed my teacher training and now am a qualified Maths teacher with a PGCE having completed the Schools Direct programme at an Academy school in South London.
Outside of the traditional curriculum, I teach Chess and in 2019/20, the LAMDA Drama and Performance course at Wallington Girls School.
I have worked as a residential tutor, living with families for short periods of a few days or more extended periods of a few weeks and months.
I have worked with students with special educational needs including ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and ASD.
I have taught percussion and drama in workshops internationally. I worked as a sailing and canoeing instructor at Camp Shohola for Boys in Greeley, Pennsylvania, USA, in the summer of 2011.
