Information about Karen
I am a research scientist with a Ph.D. in cardiovascular biochemistry from King`s College London and have since worked on lymphatic angiogenesis, the blood-brain barrier, and diabetic retinopathy at Imperial College London and University College London. I am currently taking a break from formal work to raise our family but am keen to share my passion for science and help others realise their potential.
I am flexible in my teaching approach and will be led by your needs. If there is a specific topic area you are struggling with we can focus on this until you are confident. Alternatively, we can work through the curriculum in step with your school lessons to boost your knowledge and confidence with additional time and resources. In my experience, often all that is required is a fresh perspective on a problem. We will be able to explore specific problems in-depth to fill in any gaps so that you feel confident and I will draw on my real-life research experience as much as possible to make the sessions interesting and memorable.
Availability: I am currently available Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons and evenings (from 2pm to 6pm)
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have always enjoyed helping others and teaching has been a big part of that, from helping friends and peers at school to advising Ph.D. students on their thesis or experimental protocols. Additionally, I have run an exhibit at science festivals, introducing children to fairly advanced scientific concepts in a fun and engaging way.
DBS Check: Yes
