Information about Jennifer
I am a graduate of Oxford University, having completed my undergraduate and masters in Mathematics in 2019, attaining a first class degree. During my time at Oxford, I was awarded the highest academic scholarship, ranked 5th in the year and received the IMA prize for highest performance in applied mathematics. I then spent a year employed as a Maths tutor in a secondary school in New Zealand (Christ`s College), where I taught both talented and struggling students individually and in small groups. In October 2020, I started a PhD in Applied Mathematics at University of Cambridge focusing on fluid dynamics and physical oceanography.
Availability: I am available for online tutoring on weekdays and weekends.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I have experience teaching at all levels in the UK and abroad, including helping with Oxbridge applications. I spent one year as a full time employee at Christ`s College, New Zealand, where I led small group lessons to both excelling and struggling students. I was the lead teacher of the scholarship Mathematics exam in New Zealand designed to identify the top 1-2% of students in the country, which involved teaching university level mathematics to a small class each week. Over the past 3 years, I have also privately tutored over 30 students (+800 hours) ranging from primary school mathematics to university level mathematics. I have helped write a book on the MAT admissions test, and have marked STEP papers for University of Cambridge. I am experienced in helping with university admissions including interviews, tests (STEP, MAT and TMUA) and personal statement writing.
I offer a tailored tutoring experience depending on each individual student, allowing them to progress at their own pace. I like to take a practical hands-on approach by starting with the basics and guiding students through questions of increasing levels of difficulty, making sure that they understand at each step the theory behind the question. I am happy to create resources depending on the needs of the student and encourage students to ask questions whenever they need. Outside of Maths, I enjoy playing tennis and cycling.
