Information about Glyn
I have a degree in Theology and Philosophy from Durham University, and have taught Religious Studies at secondary schools for 17 years. In more recent years I have specialised in Sixth Form teaching and mentoring, and now look forward to working as a personal tutor and exam marker.
I have an enthusiasm for all areas of Philosophy and Religious Studies, specialising in Ethics and moral theology.
I have an enhanced DBS check (2018) that I can present for inspection on our first meeting.
Availability: Evenings and weekend. Sessions last between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 mins.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have successfully taught GCSE and A-level Religious Studies for 15 years. To my AS & A-level students I have delivered Ethics, Philosophy of Religious and synoptic components, with a focus on Christian approaches.
I also have experience teaching AQA A-level Philosophy, delivering content on topics such as Epistemology, Moral Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Philosophy of Mind.
I have attended AQA training sessions for the teaching of new specifications for A-level Religious Studies and A-level Philosophy.
As a Sixth-Form pastoral leader I have supported numerous students in their applications for university and apprenticeships, assisting students in the crafting of personal statements and in preparation for interviews. I have very much enjoyed supporting students in their development of research and essay writing skills, as well as supervising students through their Extended Project Qualification.
Tutoring
Any approach to tutoring must be tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. Discussion with the student will lead to the identification of a focus for our sessions. Some students require help in understanding or revising content, others need further opportunity to develop essay writing skills, whilst some students require stretch and challenge to aid their progression towards achieving the A or A* grade.
My students receive a set of summary notes for each session and targeted tasks to complete in preparation for the next tutorial.
