Information about Katya

Recent computational chemistry PhD graduate. I completed my undergraduate degree at Queen Mary, University of London, graduating with First Class Honours, and received my PhD in early 2021 from University College London. I have been tutoring for over four years, helping students build up their confidence and ability in maths and science. Although I know that for many students study is just a means to an end, I believe that a good, disciplined study habit can be an indispensable tool in life, and this is the most important lesson that I could teach to any prospective student. I have an adaptable teaching style based on Socratic principles, which I tailor to the student. If a student is simply looking for a pass mark - I can teach them how to pass the exam, but if they show genuine flair and passion for the subject, I would gladly go above and beyond, showing them the underlying principles behind what they are learning, and where they can be applied, guiding them to further develop their curiosity.

I can do online tuition with Zoom or Microsoft Teams, with screen-sharing and an electronic notepad. It`s way better than Skype! Contact me directly for online tuition rates. I can do one-on-one sessions, or discounts group sessions (up to 4 students).

Availability: Weekday evenings (after 5pm) and flexible on weekends.

Willing to travel: 4 miles

Experience: During my fourth year at university, I participated in a peer-assisted learning group - which involved weekly tutoring of students in their first and second years. I currently participate in bi-weekly Research Journal Clubs at UCL, during which my fellow students take turns presenting and critiquing research-based presentations.

Since then I have gained over 4 years of experience tutoring GCSE/IGSCE and A-Level Maths and Science, across many exam boards (OCR, AQA and Edexcel). I also teach physical chemistry to first-year university students at tutorials, and mark papers.

Great tutoring, she knows her way around the GCSE and A level syllabus and has lots practice questions to help you. Lessons are always very structured and Katya is great at explaining difficult concepts in ways that are easy to understand. If you are looking for a tutor in science or maths we would highly recommended Katya!

Katya is brilliant with my 13yo daughter who is now excited about the maths. It was very important for me to maintain interaction with a teacher during the lockdown and Katya`s approach is perfect. She`s got incredible achievements in maths and science and has built a great rapport with my daughter. They have two classes per week via zoom with some additional homework. Katya has helped my daughter to get her confidence back in problem solving. Highly recommend Katya.
