Information about Zoe

I am a young enthusiastic maths and art tutor based in London. I have just returned to London after finishing university, graduating my philosophy degree with first class honours. I only left sixth form 5 years ago, and so feel very familiar with exam structures - the two main subjects I am offering tuition in (maths and art) were two of my a-levels, and two of my passions. Obviously, they are very different subjects to study, and so my approach to tutoring differs as such:

Maths

Maths is often talked about as a love hate subject, but I believe that everyone has the capacity to love maths (or at least not hate it), and it is usually just a matter of confidence. Having 1:1 lessons provides a space for students to go at their own pace and develop this confidence.

For students at GCSE level I recommend setting past papers for homework and then going through them in our lessons. This helps students get familiar, early, with the exam process, as well as giving them clear structures in which to develop their skills.

For students with less exam-focus, we can take a more personalised approach, target individual areas in need of development in a relaxed but focused manner. We can either use work sheets that I source, or directly consulting their classwork, or a mix of both. Each individual is different, and so my job is to help find an approach that works best for the tutee - for this reason, on our first lesson I like to have a chat with both the tutee and parent, so we can discuss such an approach.

Art approach:

I have spent most my life painting and am a very experienced painter, as well as having spent much time exploring other materials and techniques including different forms of drawing, digital (eg photoshop work), screen-printing, prints, textiles, ceramics and even stained glass.
I`d hope to use my lessons to share expertise, inspire, and be inspired by, the student`s growing individual practice - however, I have no intention to impose my own `creative voice` / style on to them. Rather, my help will more regard exam strategies. I know that, perhaps counterintuitively, to succeed in their art GCSE and Alevel one needs structure to their coursework and exam strategies.
As a recent(ish) graduate of sixth form, I am very well versed in the Art exam systems for GCSE and Alevel, and am familiar with how to score top marks in coursework, including - most importantly - sketchbooks, having achieved an A* in both Alevel and GCSE, in which I scored 100%.
If the student is at a younger age and therefore less focused on exams, we can devise a lesson plan that is more practically, or theoretically based around their individual artistic interests - and fun!

Availability: I can work very flexible hours at the moment. Just message me a suggested time and I can work around the student’s needs! Please note , my current response rate listed on the profile is incredibly low - this is not indicative of my actual response rate , I just took a hiatus from tutoring a while and forgot to pause my account.
** Sibling fees: if I teach 2 students, one sibling after another, then I will knock 1/3 off the price off the second session. If I teach 3 students one after another, then I will knock 1/2 off the price of the third session.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I only have about a years tutoring experience in total, hence my competitive rates. In this time, though, I have tutored ages from 6-16. I have a lot of general child care experience, working as a camp leader at Ealing Riding School, and volunteering at Forest School Camps. I also gave out singing lessons during sixth form!
