Information about Corrado

In my approaches to teaching, I came across a large number of young people, different in culture, age, social condition, and learning abilities. However challenging, these experiences never dampened my enthusiasm in any measure. Instead, I always derived a great sense of human and professional enrichment, coming from devoting my skills and competences to a life-changing mission.

The choice to move away from the industry to confer a deeper social value to my professional life, was definitely a major driving force for me to join the path of education. However, other relevant motivations came into play:

i) I strongly value culture and education. I see school as a precious framework providing not only academic but also social learning, in which teachers play a strategic role, as they are offered the possibility to intervene at the stage in which children firstly experience the effect of social stigma and diversity. Therefore, I am both committed to the development of children`s technical skills, as well as ready to get involved in the construction of their social competences.

ii) Be a positive, inspirational role model. All of us can remember a teacher who impacted us deeply, not simply for triggering the love (or hate) for his subject, but also for impressing a permanent momentum to our personality. Likewise, I would endeavour to push my teaching beyond the official syllabus, trying to convey a message of respect, inclusiveness and cooperation.

iii) Instil the love for learning. As a student, I remember being fascinated by outstanding lectures. My own understanding of maths is brought about through a profound love for the subject. The ability to involve a student`s feelings in the learning process (even when it is about numbers!) is the key to trigger a genuine love for learning, and what turns a great teacher into an outstanding educator.

Hence, the great care in refining my teaching methods, taking on board new ideas and expressing a natural talent for motivation.

For it is my belief that every student can achieve brilliant goals if given the right stimuli and resources. And seeing students accomplish is my reward.

Experience: I am a Master graduate in Materials Engineering, PhD in Materials for Environment Energy and Health, with a worldwide consolidated academic background in materials science and technology.
I am author of a number of publications on high impact factor international scientific journals, and have been speaker in several scientific meetings around the world.

I am currently a full time Physics teacher in a London secondary school.

My first teaching experience dates back to 2005, framed within my PhD.
A considerable part of my activity consisted in providing lectures and training to faculty students, including exam preparation and evaluation.
Besides being an important test for my academic background, this experience also revealed a natural attitude for teaching.

In 2010, parallel to my research activity in Japan, I was offered to run a one-term Italian course for Tsukuba University. Using my ICT expertise and English as the interface language, I built up and successfully led a 15 lesson course from scratch, exhibiting strong time management, planning and communication skills, and developing original teaching methods.

I moved to London in 2012, providing tuition for maths, English and Italian to local students.

In 2015 I joined UCAS SEP and obtained occasional observer placements in primary/secondary schools, my very introduction to the British education system.

In 2016 I joined Explore Learning, as a math and English tutor. The possibility to play a more active role and maintain a working continuity, helped me build lasting rapport with the students, thus allowing me to plan teaching strategies and better tackle individual educational needs.
