Hi! I`m Ali, I`m an Oxford English Literature graduate and English tutor for students at A-level and university. I live in London but offer all of my tutoring online in the evenings, weekends or weekdays, so I can work with you wherever you live.

I love helping people turn around their confidence in English, or, if you are aiming for the very top grade, build on their skills to achieve the highest marks. I can also help you if you are already at university or if you would like coaching to get into a top university for English. I`ve worked with several students to help them get into top universities including Cambridge and St. Andrews.

I`m friendly, supportive, knowledgeable about your texts, and know how hard it is to do your A-levels. I`m passionate about you feeling in control while you work on the exams that feel so significant in your future. When I did my A-levels, mental health was a struggle. A lot of managing your A-levels is exactly that - just managing! Having a support makes all the difference. I`ll encourage you to take care of your mental health, so you go into your exams feeling confident and in charge.

If you work with me, we will go into your A-levels together. We will quickly take stock of what is holding you back and set up a tailored plan to crack the issues and work on the areas that will change your grade. We will go over your texts in whatever way you feel you are missing, but I will also teach you the key close reading and essay writing skills that have the most impact on your analysis and writing.

At A-level, knowing how to write an essay and demonstrate your grade to the examiner is crucial. When I was at Oxford, I had to write 16 essays every term, so I promise you, if I can do that, we can crack essays together! My approach is to teach you how to think and write about a novel, poem or play and become a perceptive and assured writer, who can show the examiner their confidence and sharpness of mind.

Availability: I am currently available for online tutoring any weekday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Experience: I`m lucky that I`ve always thrived academically, getting A*s for my GCSEs, and A`s at A-level, including full marks for my English exams and coursework.

After graduating from Oxford, where I studied English Literature, I tutored English for three years, including 6 months spent at a college as a substitute teacher for English Literature, coaching an A-level class through their coursework and exams. I helped raise the whole class’s average grades from a D to a B, with many of my students getting high As.

After this, I moved to London to work in marketing and as the Head of School Programmes for a new education charity. I’ve also participated in two 6-month long ‘learning marathons’, which is a way of people supporting themselves through a steep learning curve that really challenges them over a short time - a bit like preparing for exams!

For the last year I`ve mentored one of my previous students who graduated with a first class degree from St Andrews University as she began tutoring, and I remembered just how much I love teaching English. I now want to start my own mental health charity, and so I am building this alongside running my own English Literature tutoring business to support students who have been affected by the pandemic.
