Information about Margaret
I am a writer, a tutor and a registered schoolteacher, with full membership of the GTC (General Teaching Council of Scotland) and full PVG cover.
I live in East Wemyss, right down by the sea. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the sea is a lifelong ambition I have recently realised, to my great delight. All our children having grown and flown, I live here with my husband, our dog Katy and our cat Phoebe.
Availability: I am available for students to come to my home seven days a week.
If you would prefer me to come to your home, I am available for this on any evening, or, if during the day, from Wednesdays to Saturdays inclusive.
There is no upper limit on the distance I am prepared to travel for tutoring. A long distance, however, would necessitate a higher charge, purely to cover the cost involved.
Any travel up to and including a thirty-mile round trip, therefore, would be £5 more per session; while a journey in excess of this, would need to be £10 more. (A forty-mile round trip for a one-hour session, for example, costs me £9 in petrol, and two hours and twenty minutes in time.)
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Edinburgh University (1984) and did my further training in Primary education (PGCE) at Moray House, graduating in 2000. I have worked as a teacher in Fife schools for 14 years - specialising in learning support, and in the emotional well-being of pupils.
I have also worked as a tutor for Kip McGrath, but found the content of their teaching material too prescri ptive for my liking. I prefer an approach that is tailored specifically to the individual learning needs of each student.
As a tutor I like to take the worry and stress out of the learning process. A natural enthusiasm for the subject is, sadly, often lost as the pressure mounts. In my tutoring I always seek to introduce an element of fun to rekindle that enthusiasm and, as understanding comes and targets are met and a students wavering confidence is repaired, to re-establish the simple joy of learning.
