I am 47 years old and have taught for 25 years both in the UK and abroad. I am a father of two boys who are home schooled and I enjoy running, reading, cooking and hanging out with my family in the Peak District.

Experience: I am a warm, kind and positive teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience in both the independent and state sectors. I have taught English at Key Stage 3 and GCSE level along with History at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. I am currently an examiner for AQA GCSE English Literature and a Senior Examiner for WJEC GCSE History. Amongst a number of senior management roles, I have been Head of Humanities and am currently Head of English and History at a highly respected independent secondary school where I teach Key Stage 3 and GCSE English and History. The progress and value added of pupils that I have taught has been consistently strong and well above national average. As I currently work in schools, I have an up to date DBS check. It is important to note that I have a good degree, a PGCE and an MA in Education as well as a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults.
I have also spent a number of years in pastoral leadership roles and as a head of department so I have a sound rapport with students and an understanding of a range of social, emotional and special educational needs. I am sensitive to the needs of pupils who study other than at school.
