Information about Megan

I have recently completed my second year on the Teach First leadership programme, teaching Geography to Secondary students. I have achieved an Outstanding grade in my QTS and NQT year. I am thoroughly looking forward to beginning my third year teaching and leading a department.

During my time at University I took a year`s placement to work as a teaching assistant at Bincombe Valley Primary School. This was a challenging school, which progressed from Ofsted Requires Improvement to Good and achieved its best year 6 SATs while I was there.

I offer a first lesson free of charge, so that you and I can meet, discuss your needs and you can get to know my teaching style without any commitment on your part.

Availability: Monday to Friday morning and afternoons throughout the summer.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: While I was a teaching assistant, I tutored maths and English SATs revision sessions on a 1:2 basis. Also, I set up a handwriting and spelling programme, which improved the students handwriting and spelling ages, including those with dyslexia managed to improve by over 24months on their original spelling age.

I am pleased to say all of my students that I tutored, in and outside of school, achieved the expectations of a year 6 pupil or above. In particular, one of my pupils scored 109/110 in the maths paper.

Since September I have been a full-time teacher at a Secondary school, teaching KS3, GCSE and A level Geography. I am currently an examiner for AQA marking the GCSE Geography papers.

Additionally, I have worked at a Field Studies Centre, where I supported and taught students doing their Biology and Geography fieldwork at GCSE and A Level.

I have also been a sailing and cabin counsellor for two summers at an all boys camp in New Hampshire, America, here I mentored and taught the children on teamwork, life skills and friendship. I have also worked at Budmouth Freshers Camp, easing the transition between Primary and Secondary school and instilling the importance of teamwork, while instructing outdoor activities. Following on from this, I was an outdoor activity leader on several Dorset Expeditionary Society expeditions selections.

Megan is a fantastic tutor. My 10 year old son enjoys his learning with her. Megan makes the most of the hour long sessions and my son really gets a lot out of the time he spends with her. She is enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable and is very professional in her approach to helping my son with his learning. Thanks Megan!
